This position is designed to be a comprehensive apprenticeship within the Venue Operations division of City of Peoria Parks and Recreation, focusing on the Peoria Sports Complex and Rio Vista Recreation Center. This role will have the opportunity to experience the business of sports including corporate partnerships, marketing, gameday production, event operations, and an understanding of recreation management and its various programs.  The overarching design of this position is to allow a person to educate themselves on a wide variety of areas within the professional sports, recreation, and governmental atmosphere.  It is the intent that immersion into multiple competencies will help this person better define their own career path while providing experiential skills necessary to obtain future employment opportunities.

This is a fixed-term, non-benefited position with a projected completion date of April 2025.  This position will provide consistent hours which vary between 25-30 hours per week starting early Fall, or as work demands dictate. From Mid-January to the end of April, a consistent 40-hour work week should be anticipated to focus on the execution of the Spring Training 2025 season and game day operations. 

Regular duties include: 
  • October – January
    • Assist the Partnerships Coordinator with general partnership sales outreach.
    • Assist the Partnerships Coordinator with general partnership sales and discussions, including but not limited to providing input on proposals and input on partnership discussions.
    • Lead and execute the Local Fridays partnership program.
    • Assist with and administer local grassroots marketing efforts in conjunction with goals and objectives established by the Peoria Sports Complex team.
    • Assist with community outreach for the City of Peoria Parks and Recreation department.
    • Assist with and/or serve as the Manager on Duty for certain Peoria Sports Complex events.
    • Assist in building gameday production elements, including but not limited to sponsor graphics/animations, building player headshots, reviewing music inventory, and making suggestions on emerging trends. 
  • February – March
    • Execute pre-game checks of sponsored activation areas to ensure quality prior to gates opening during the Spring Training season.
    • Capture content of all sponsor-activated areas for use as proof of performance for partnership recaps.
    • Prep necessary production items before each game, including but not limited to building player headshots, making necessary changes to the run of show based on sponsor activations, and other necessary production-related functions.
    • Serve as Manager on Duty/Gameday Director in the Production Room on a regularly assigned basis. 
  • April
    • Assist the Partnership Coordinator with compiling assets for sponsor recaps. 

The ideal candidate for this position will have:
  • Recently completed their undergraduate degree, will graduate in the fall of 2024, or someone who is actively pursuing a master’s degree part-time.  Ideally, the person is studying sports management, marketing, or recreation with the desire to pursue a career in professional sports, recreation or government.  
  • Strong communication attributes including professional writing, speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Regular work availability from October through April including nights and weekends.
  • Previous experience in event operations, marketing, or recreation preferred.
  • Previous experience in graphic design (i.e. Adobe Creative Suite) and/or experience in gameday production preferred.
  • Individuals with experience in sponsorship sales or pursuing a job in sponsorship sales is a plus.
  • Previous experience in supervising part-time staff or volunteers is a plus. 
  • Local to Peoria/Arizona or the ability to secure housing in the area if selected for the position.  

Minimum Requirements:
  • Completed or near completion of an undergraduate degree in Sports Management, Marketing, Recreation, or a related field.
  • Valid Driver’s License (AZ or other state)
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays from October through April.
 
Hourly Rate:  $18.36
