Summary/Objective

The Houston Astros are currently seeking a Dominican Republic Scouting Assistant in the Dominican Republic. The responsibilities include collecting and uploading data and video of international players in the assigned region. This position will be based in the Dominican Republic.

 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Travel throughout assigned region(s) with scouting staff on regular basis, coordinating schedule with direct supervisor and other scouting staff.
  • Source, clean, and upload player bio and baseball data to aid in evaluation process across Dominican Republic player market.
  • Shoot, edit, and upload video to internal system for scout review.
  • Participate in staff discussions and meetings related to international player evaluation.
  • Frequently interact with agents, scouts, and others throughout the local baseball community to maintain industry relationships and streamline data collection process.
  • Maintain player evaluations and communicate them with supervisors via verbal/written channels as assigned.
  • Collaborate in executing player tryouts.
  • Work with direct supervisor and office staff to identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Education and/or Experience & Skills

  • Spanish language fluency required.
  • General proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel is required, with advanced skills a plus.
  • Experience in the international baseball market, particularly in the assigned region(s), is strongly preferred.
  • Experience operating cameras and baseball technology strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • English language proficiency is a plus.
  • Experience with SQL and SQL databases a plus.
  • Professional playing experience a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals including scouts, players, trainers, and front office members.
  • Demonstrated passion for baseball and intellectual curiosity.

 

Work Environment

The work will largely be performed at a sports venue (indoor or outdoor- hot/cold environment) that could be heavily crowded with high activity.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand for long periods of time, walk long distances and/or climb up/down stairs; may be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, sit and/or move/lift up to 50lbs of equipment or supplies; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and focused vision. The employee for this position must have the ability to drive a vehicle.

 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position that will require a flexible schedule. This position requires travel throughout assigned region(s) throughout the year, and work on nights/weekends. Position may require relocation to assigned region(s) within Dominican Republic.

 

Travel

Both international and domestic travel will be expected for this position on occasion.
