Summary/Objective

The Sugar Land Space Cowboys Community Relations Manager position is responsible for developing and implementing community engagement programs to create and foster relationships between the Space Cowboys and the local community, along with overseeing the team’s charitable efforts, contributing to revenue-generating efforts and executing grassroots marketing efforts.

 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Oversee all charitable efforts and allocation of funds raised through Space Cowboys efforts in coordination with the Astros Foundation, maintaining communication with Foundation.
  • Run Share2Care Raffle at all Space Cowboys home games.
  • Establish and foster relationships with non-profit organizations to build opportunities to promote each other, develop fundraising relationships and work to build outside community-based events to the ballpark.
  • Coordinate and fulfill community speaking requests for front office engagement in the community and organize front office volunteer events.
  • Assist community relations coordinator in operations of annual spring and summer reading program including oversight and production of printed collateral, scheduling and fulfilling in-school reading sessions and assembly, and facilitation of prize/ticket distribution.
  • Develop sales and marketing strategy for Orion’s Kids Club including yearly growth of program, quarterly events, ticket distributions, incentives and more.
  • Collaborate with marketing team to plan ballpark entertainment activities including pregame performances, national anthem singers, community tabling efforts, etc.
  • Organize and execute all jersey auctions including day-of auction, inventory and pick-up.
  • Work to achieve sales goal through group sales, fundraising ticket sales and Orion’s Kids Club.
  • Proactively interact and engage with fans at events and in-stadium.
  • Hire and manage Street Team, Share2Care Raffle gameday employees and promotional associate, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Education and/or Experience & Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and/or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work independently and self-motivate.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented and technically minded; demonstrate excellent follow-through.
  • Understanding of the game of baseball.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and selected holidays.
  • Creative and proactive problem solver.

 

Preferred

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years management experience preferred.
  • Experience in sports or entertainment industry.
  • Prior work with or alongside non-profit experience.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) skills are a plus.

 

Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages the Street Team, Share2Care Raffle gameday employees and promotional marketing associate and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of those employees.

 

Work Environment

This job operates in a clerical, office setting.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets. 

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

  • Ability to lift 20 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and hours of work on non-game days are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Due to the nature of this position, the position requires hours of work and days that include frequent nights, weekends, and holidays.

 

Travel

No travel is expected for this position.
