The Miami Marlins seek a dedicated and passionate Lead Teacher to join our Player Development & Education team in the Dominican Republic. Our mission is to equip players with the essential language, life, and interpersonal skills needed to thrive both in their careers in the United States as well as in their personal and professional lives. We are committed to developing not only skilled baseball players but also well-rounded individuals.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Teach Daily English Classes: Conduct engaging and effective English language classes for players at the DR complex.
  • Support Educational Team: Collaborate with a team of full-time teachers and part-time tutors to provide comprehensive educational support to players.
  • Lesson Planning: Develop and implement weekly lesson plans and activities designed to enhance English language proficiency.
  • Assessment Administration: Administer assessments to monitor player progress and growth in their English language skills.
  • L1 Literacy Improvement: Assist players in improving their literacy skills in their first language (L1), ensuring a strong foundation for overall learning.
  • Player Needs Assessment: Continuously assess player needs and development to tailor educational approaches for maximum effectiveness.
  • Coach Collaboration: Work closely with coaches to integrate educational goals into the players' overall development plan. Develop and manage weekly schedules for educational programming.
  • Player Development Collaboration: Partner with the Player Development team to encourage holistic player improvement. Understanding our players as athletes enhances the effectiveness of classroom teaching.
  • Additional Support: Provide support in various capacities as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the Player Development & Education team.
 
Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven experience in teaching English as a second language, preferably with athletes or in a similar environment. 
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Strong organizational and lesson planning skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of educators and coaches.
  • Passionate about the development of and well-being of our players 
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Child Development, or related field
