Thank you for your interest in an internship with the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. It is our goal to provide you with hands-on experience and knowledge useful in competing for jobs in the baseball industry, beginning with Summer Collegiate Baseball.  We will also work with you to fulfill requirements for college credit if necessary.  Our internships are a great learning opportunity where previous experience is not always necessary. The Rafters are a part of the Northwoods League, a summer collegiate league located in the midwest. Each summer the Rafters host 36 games at Historic Witter Field and bring in over 35,000 fans through the gates.

Position Overview:
Are you a passionate baseball fan with dreams of becoming a sports broadcaster? Join our team as a Baseball TV Broadcaster Intern and immerse yourself in the world of sports media. This internship offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with our seasoned TV broadcasting team, gaining valuable experience in live sports coverage, game analysis, and on-air presentation. As a Baseball TV Broadcaster Intern, you will be an integral part of our team, contributing to game broadcasts and learning from industry professionals. This is no lazy summer internship! It is However, Very Rewarding and Very Memorable!

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Game-Day Broadcasting: Assist in providing live play-by-play commentary, game analysis, and on-air insights during baseball games.
  2. Research and Preparation: Conduct in-depth research on teams, players, and game statistics to be well-prepared for each broadcast.
  3. On-Air Presence: Participate in pre-game, in-game, and post-game segments, showcasing your on-air personality and presenting game analysis.
  4. Interviewing: Conduct player and guest interviews and gather insights to add depth and context to the game coverage.
  5. Collaboration: Work closely with the graphic designer to create a daily program for fans in stadium and online,
  6. Post-Production Support: Collaborate with the production team on video editing, voiceovers, and other post-production tasks.
  7. Feedback and Improvement: Seek feedback from senior broadcasters and production staff to continuously improve your on-air skills.
  8. Journalism: Help write and produce team press releases in collaboration with the Radio Broadcaster, and Assistant General Manager. 
  9. This is not an all-inclusive list and you will be assigned additional team duties to ensure a positive fan experience, facilities cleanliness, and everyone’s safety.

Requirements:
  • Broadcasting Enthusiast: A genuine passion for sports broadcasting, with a specific interest in baseball.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication skills with a clear and articulate speaking style.
  • Baseball Knowledge: A solid understanding of baseball rules, player positions, and game dynamics.
  • Adaptable and Quick Learner: Ability to adapt to live broadcast situations and learn from feedback and experience.
  • Team Player: Collaborative attitude, open to working with the broadcasting team and receiving guidance from senior broadcasters.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays to cover baseball games.
  • Educational Background: Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Broadcasting, Journalism, Communications, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.

Duration of Commitment & Compensation:
This is a 3 month (Mid-May through Mid-August) summer internship position. Compensation and academic credit options can be discussed during the interview process.
