Position Overview:
The Springfield Cardinals are seeking a Manager, Retail Merchandise to oversee all retail merchandise and souvenir operations at the Cardinals' retail store at Hammons Field. This full-time position will be responsible for creating and implementing merchandise strategies including the curation, purchase, management, and forecasting of inventory trends for all retail merchandise and overseeing product display and layout within the retail store. Customer engagement is a significant component of this position, and a friendly, professional commitment to customer service and satisfaction is vital for this role.  

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Design, select, purchase, and manage inventory of merchandise in the Team retail store. 
  • Supervise team store staff and interns including scheduling of hours and the delegation of tasks. 
  • Develop a retail merchandise strategy to identify popular items, promotions, and price points to meet projected revenue goals and forecasted budget. 
  • Identify and vet potential vendors and negotiate terms and conditions for the design, purchase, and delivery of merchandise and souvenir items. 
  • Coordinate with clubhouse managers to supply team uniforms and hats. 
  • Oversee the online team store, including the monitoring of sales, collection of online orders, packaging and shipping of items, and changing of orders,  
  • Coordinate with the Manager of Marketing to execute promotional sales through the team social media channels. 
  • Prepare and maintain accurate inventory records, and adjust inventory as needed. 
  • Prepare daily sales and forecasting reports and maintain familiarity with retail merchandise budget. 
  • Manage the retail merchandise Point of Sale System (POS). 
  • Create an inviting retail store layout and displays that promote the team merchandise. 
  • Uphold, support, and promote all company policies and procedures. 
  • Maintain routine communication with the General Manager and provide pertinent information regarding retail merchandise and souvenir operations.  

Supervisory Responsibilities:  The Manager, Retail Merchandise is responsible for overseeing the retail store staff including part-time game day staff during the baseball season. 

Required Skills and Qualifications: This position requires excellent communication and organizational skills for success. As a Manager, and the point of contact for retail customers, this position will require positivity, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to meet and exceed desired expectations.  

Education/Experience: 
  • Associate degree (A.A.) required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred 
  • 2-3 years or previous merchandising and/or sales experience preferred 
  • Ability to attend most, if not all, home games 
  • Familiarity with retail POS systems, Microsoft Excel or accounting systems preferred.
