Summary:

Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer the Sr. Director, Promotions and Fan Engagement is responsible for the strategic planning and execution of the Nationals promotional calendar, giveaways and theme nights, and fan engagement programs. He/she is responsible for the strategy and implementation of promotion schedules and overseeing in-game entertainment including pregame ceremonies, mascot appearances and the overall game-day experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Promotions:

  • In partnership with Business Strategy and Analytics team, lead the strategy and development of our promotions calendar, with the ultimate objective of driving incremental ticket sales
  • Oversee the giveaway and promotional item process to ensure quality and brand standards
  • Liaison between promotional merchandise, vendors and team to ensure quality standards, production deadlines and incorporating team’s goals and brand.
  • Oversee and assist in ideation, creative and approval process for all promotions and theme nights for the upcoming calendar year
  • Work with purchasing for the promotional bids and financial process of budgeting for all promotional items for the season
  • Work with Corporate Partnerships and Production on promotions for game days and non game days
  • Oversee the marketing special-ticket events and groups giveaway process including creating and ordering all giveaway items
  • Manage spring training production shoot for the marketing and revenue departments

Fan Engagement: In-Game Entertainment and Grassroots:

  • Work with sponsorship and the Director, Game Production on the development and execution of the pregame show, in park activations.
  • Collaborate with game production on game day scripts, logs, field diagrams, and part-time staff with the Sr. Manager of Game Presentation.
  • Collaborate with game production regarding pregame ceremonies included but not limited to scheduling or approving on-field presentation, all pregame assets and special recognitions.
  • Manage all fan-facing elements related to post-game concerts and events, working closely with internal departments to determine artist and operational needs.
  • Manage the brainstorming sessions to enhance the game day experience.
  • Oversee mascot grassroots program alongside the game presentation team, activating at brand and community events in the DC area, to drive brand love for key growth audiences and increase ticket sales.

Office Duties:

  • Responsible for creating, tracking & maintaining paperwork for the Promotions & In-game Presentation departments as needed.
  • Lead the team in budget management, contracts and production timelines.
  • Manage staff and work with other departments on seasonal planning for the organization.

Requirements:

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or a related experience in sports
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proven track record of best practices and principles
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience in Special Events, Promotions and In-game Entertainment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions:

  • Exceptional attention to detail and expertise in event logistics required
  • Broad knowledge of market trends and values as they pertain to event management and vendor negotiations
  • Professional presence exhibited at all times and the ability to make sound and rational decisions in time-sensitive circumstances
  • Able to prioritize projects as well as the ability to multi-task
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills; ability to communicate effectively at all levels both internally and externally
  • Must be able to work with other teams to share ideas and processes
  • Must have consistent, punctual and regular attendance
  • Must have a professional image and demeanor around fans, Major League Players/Coaches and Manager
  • Must be able to work flexible work schedule and be available to work all Nationals home games. Occasional weekend and/or evening work depending on demand during the off season.

Physical/Environmental Requirements:

  • Office: Working conditions are normal for an office environment
  • Game day: Job requires employee to function in a high activity and heavily crowded outdoor professional sports venue. May work at heights.  Employee will be exposed to inclement weather of varying degrees.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, walk long distances, and climb up/down stairs. The employee is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or sit and must lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.

Compensation:

The projected annual salary range for this position is $100,000 - $123,000 per year.  Actual pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to the applicant’s: qualifications, skills, expertise, education/training, certifications, and other organization requirements. Starting salaries for new employees are frequently not at the top of the applicable salary range.
