Job description – what you’ll do

  • Find, pitch, write, and publish news stories, aggregate items for Brooklyn Media at a regular cadence each day
  • Report for news stories that need additional follow-ups (i.e., official statements, quotes, finding sources for original content, and pitching fresh angles to expand a story)
  • Actively participate in editorial meetings and pitch process
  • Work closely with our social team to develop social and social video content, collaborating to increase the reach of our news coverage
  • Use contacts to get better access and information on stories within our world; perform due journalistic diligence on information captured

Who you are

  • 3+ years of professional journalism experience
  • Ability to write with speed and accuracy
  • Must have extensive knowledge of current events, pop culture, music, and sports
  • Sharp news judgment, identifying the right angles for impactful stories
  • Ability to write strong, engaging headlines
  • Ability to thrive under daily deadline pressure, delivering high-quality work independently
  • Strong writing and communication skills, proofreading experience, and quick decision-making skills
  • Proficiency in SEO best practices, working with Content Management Systems (CMS), and strong ability to consider story presentation on social and social video
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends for comprehensive news coverage.
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Travel requirements

May be required to travel on occasions; trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay for one or more nights.

Salary range

$72,000 - $85,000

Work environment

Works primarily in an office environment but upon request will be encouraged to attend games and other events on evenings, weekends and holidays.
