The Data Asset Manager for the Utah Jazz and Utah Hockey Club – franchises of the Smith Entertainment Group (SEG) – will work within the creative services team in the marketing department. This position will be a unique and new endeavor for SEG, as we are looking for someone experienced with file management and organization to completely oversee the daily use and upkeep of our digital asset library on a dedicated internal server, used organizationally by the Utah Jazz and Utah Hockey Club. This position may manage other team members' data asset library and assist on projects and productions as needed reporting to the Sr. Creative Services Director. The right person for this position must be a master of their craft in server and file management in a creative workspace, and knowledge of the asset management platform CatDV is a huge plus. They should be able to create processes that make the day-to-day workflows of creative services team members easier. This person should be able to see a project from concept to completion and bring new ideas to the creative voice and structure of the team. In this role, you will need to be collaborative, take direction, be open to feedback, and be versatile. You’ll be able to combine your passion for sports with the management of video production. This is a full-time position.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain and execute the vision for the company’s digital collection of audio, video, graphics, documents, and/or other materials.
  • Define working processes and management systems for asset intake, storage, distribution, and archival. 
  • Establish and maintain naming architecture, taxonomy, permissions, and metadata.
  • Assist in setting file standards for interoperability and optimization of workflows.
  • Oversee daily use and upkeep of the digital asset library using our asset management platform CatDV.
  • Work closely with our video production team to gain institutional knowledge of the current server and archives.
  • Assist directors, editors, creators, and designers across all related departments in locating, obtaining, and using materials.
  • Help oversee on-set production with data wrangling and protection & organizing of footage as needed (DIT).
  • Organize and lead a team to asset manage, label, and tag content via CatDV and the internal server.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Intake
    • Understand how to gather, protect, and load any new content as needed to the internal server.
    • Knowledge of managing audio, video, graphics, documents, and other digital asset types
  • Storage
    • Experience with file and folder structure, naming conventions, permissions, and sharing of file paths
    • Can organize thoroughly, whilst notifying all groups it pertains to.
    • Understand frame rates, codecs, resolutions, and other technical specifications of cameras and video outputs.
  • Distribution
    • Maintain a catalog of assets for internal and external use
    • Communicate to various team members when assets are available, downloaded assets have been revised, and assets are no longer available for use.
    • Understand different delivery mediums and specs for asset sharing (video, photo, graphics)
  • Archival
    • Optimization of internal server space throughout NBA/NHL seasons and especially during the off-seasons.
    • Evaluate metadata models regularly for adjustments and additions as the business evolves.
    • Minimize organizational cost through standardization and tracking, with reports shared with the I.T. team regularly.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience with digital asset management
  • Bachelor’s degree in digital media, information systems or library/information science or related work experience
  • Comfortable working in and navigating around the Adobe Creative Suite. Particularly Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop.
  • Software savvy (CatDV knowledge Preferred) with the ability to quickly learn new programs as needed.
  • Knowledge of basic hardware components of creative services video production (e.g., cameras, memory cards, hardware storage)
  • Experience producing asset inventory, reports, and dashboards is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, as necessary to work effectively with staff at all levels
  • Interest in the NHL and NBA is preferred but not required.
  • Strong project and process management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects and a wide range of tasks
  • Flexibility in schedule (such as nights, weekends, and holidays).
  • Be hands-on and proactive.
  • Experience and comfortability using PC and Apple products and macOS.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This person must be able to communicate and express themselves both written and verbally.
  • This person must be able to observe, inspect, estimate and assess.
  • This person must be able to sit, stand, bend, walk, and climb stairs for long periods of time.
  • This person must be able to lift 50 lbs.
