The Utah Jazz Affiliate Dietitian - Salt Lake City (SLC) Stars will be a co-leader in creating the nutrition program for the SLC Stars. This position must be prepared to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure work environment while maintaining the organizational ability to identify and act on job duties quickly and effectively. The SLC Stars Dietitian must be prepared to collaborate and innovate with other departments and team leaders, such as athletic trainers, physical therapists, strength and conditioning, coaches, management and other support staff. This position will play a critical role in fulfilling the overall vision of the Utah Jazz and Smith Entertainment Group (SEG) of being the best nutrition, culinary and hospitality team in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Carry out Salt Lake City Stars Performance Nutrition program and support the overall vision of the Utah Jazz and SEG vision 
  • Inventory product and place orders for necessary vendors; maintain good standing relationships Maintain clean, professional and stocked fueling station (on- court) 
  • Manage athletes’ post practice and game care (shakes, meals, etc.) 
  • Assist Director of Basketball Operations with home/road logistics 
  • Conduct consults with athletes including, but not limited to initial/follow up assessments, sleep, injury/surgery, hydration, weight, body composition, etc. 
  • Provide medical nutrition therapy (MNT), as needed, to help manage or treat medical conditions, ie. nutrient deficiency, metabolic disease, allergies, intolerances and dietary restrictions 
  • Ensure proper documentation is being kept for all consults 
  • Maintain effective communication with the Director of Performance Nutrition, specifically when a Utah Jazz roster player is assigned to the SLC Stars. Assist in accountability for specified goals. - Develop, coordinate, and deliver nutrition education talks to player, coaches, support staff - Interpret body composition and bloodwork results; relay and educate athletes, as needed - Research, evaluate and educate on appropriate performance supplements to athletes - Attend/be present at all team practices and home games 
  • Develop nutrition education for team practice facility, travel, gameday settings, etc. - Provide a high level of customer service, communication and experience at all times to all entities - Serve as a mentor to other non-RD interns (ie. part-time university capstone intern) - Assist in managing budget for nutrition related items (fueling station, team travel, recovery, etc.) - Collaborate with the performance healthcare staff, including athletic trainers, physical therapists, and strength and conditioning personnel 
  • Attend performance healthcare staff meetings, as scheduled 
  • Maintain a safe environment for players to fuel, hydrate, recover and perform to their optimum 
  • Perform additional responsibilities, although not detailed, as requested by the Director of Performance Nutrition and/or Director of Medical Services

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Start date- October 1, 2024 end date April 30, 2025 (team option for extension through July 31, 2025)
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (required) in Nutrition or related field & Master’s degree in Nutrition or related field (preferred) 
  • Registered Dietitian (Commission on Dietetic Registration) 
  • Licensed Dietitian (State of Utah) - upon hire 
  • Minimum 3-5 years related nutrition experience (ie: volunteer), preferably in sports nutrition
  • Minimum 1 year registered dietitian experience, preferably in sports nutrition 
  • ServSafe Food Handlers permit, within 30 days of hire (ServSafe -

  • Highly adaptable, with excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively in a diverse environment  Computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Workspace 
  • Superior time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision 
  • Strong problem recognition and problem resolution skills 
  • Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate business requirements, will require evening and weekend work schedules 
  • Salary– 7 month contract; team option to extend for additional 3 months; $4,800/month + benefits 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Lift up to 50 pounds; repetitive arm, hand, and finger movements; bending and reaching
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders 
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time 
  • At times, might be exposed to hot and cold temperatures, such as when working near ovens or retrieving food from freezers 
  • At times, manual dexterity required to use knives and kitchen appliances
