About the Position 

The Chase Center is looking for Utility Technicians to play a key role in bringing our events to life and making our arena a premier entertainment destination. In this role, you will assist in the set-up, tear down, and movement of every item necessary to make all our events a success. This position reports to the Manager, Conversions and Operations.

This is a part-time position based onsite in San Francisco, CA. This is a unionized position with IATSE Local 16 as a Chase Center employee.

Key Responsibilities

Sporting Events

  • Set-up and strike for events including all ground cover (such as basketball floor), basketball stanchions, hockey glass, ice floor covering, dasher boards, folding chairs, tables, draping for tables and specialized rented equipment for sports (e.g. boxing or wrestling ring), including house lighting and sound equipment
  • Operate motors for the scoreboard, gantries, speakers, moving lights/trusses and spotlights
  • Set-up and strike band gear and associated equipment for small pre-game, post-game or half-time show
  • Assist vendor with set-up and strike of special effects -pyro, lasers, cryo and confetti guns
  • Set-up, strike and operate all temporary event-related projection, LED/video wall, and associated camera equipment
  • Other duties as assigned

 Concerts/Entertainment Events

  • Set-up and strike all house-owned and rental pipe and drape and operation of fixed upper bowl reduction curtains, stages and moving of house furniture, ground cover and folding chairs
  • Other duties as assigned

 Special Events

  • Set-up and strike of event, including tables. chairs, draping, and podiums, lighting and sound equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned

 Changeovers

  • Change arena configuration from one event to another
  • Other duties as assigned

 Maintenance

  • Perform routine maintenance (e.g., seat repairs, installing/repairing wall bumpers, telescopic risers), event-related paint, patch, carpet repair, and LED/video walls replacement

 Sign Hanging

  • Event-related or temporary sign hanging, including application of vinyl graphics and hanging of rafter banners

 Truck Loading/Unloading

  • Load/unload trucks and operate forklifts in connection with the above-referenced work

 Required Experience & Skills

  • Basic mechanic skills
  • Forklift and aerial lift certification preferred but not required
  • Experience operating motorized equipment and vehicles (e.g. light trucks, auto-scrubbing machines, Cushman carts, vacuums, trash compactor, cardboard bailer, forklifts, suction cups, pallet jacks, aerial lifts, etc.); forklift certification preferred
  • Experience with various power and hand tools (e.g. sockets, wrenches, hammers, drills, impact wrench, Allen wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.)
  • Experience using electronic devices (i.e. computers and tablets) to respond to and update work orders using CMMS & IMS mobile device software
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills

 Physical Demands

  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time, including standing, sitting, bending, working with arms raised, and walking on concrete and uneven surfaces while repeatedly lifting up to 100 lbs. throughout shift
  • Ability to climb over and into heavy equipment several times per day
  • Ability to climb portable and fixed ladders, occasionally working at heights above 10 ft.
  • Comfortable working through extreme temperature changes from basketball/ice arena to outdoors in inclement weather, including exposure to bright lights, loud noise and dust

 Time Commitment

  • Non-traditional hours; weekdays, weekends and holidays, late nights/overnights as needed
  • Ability to work 75% of scheduled events each month, including 75% of all weekend events and ALL holidays

 Compensation

  • $38.92 per hour
