The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is now accepting applications for the position of Director of Employee Support, Success & Engagement. The Director of Employee Support, Success & Engagement will be responsible for supporting the Department of Athletics with a variety of HR, payroll, and business operations tasks. This position acts as a liaison between hiring managers and the HR department, ensuring smooth onboarding, offboarding, and employee lifecycle changes. Additionally, the role supports Workday processes, compensation changes, and various employee recognition activities.

This position will report directly to the Associate Athletics Director of Business Operations and be a part of the Business Office team within the Athletics department to drive synergies between business, finance and HR. This role will also work closely with the Senior Human Resources Business Partner and Recruiter who support the Athletics department as a part of the central University HR team.

Responsibilities:
Employee Support, Success & Engagement
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with colleagues to ensure collaboration and alignment.
  • Act as the Athletic department resource for general human resources inquiries, providing assistance with timesheets, absence management, benefits information, and referring to Central HR as needed.
  • Assist hiring managers as liaison with HR Recruiter and Business Partner for recruiting activities, including training managers on the hiring process, Workday processes, drafting job announcements, posting external advertisements, student-worker hires, and arranging lodging for candidate interviews.
  • Coordinate new hire visa (H1B, J1) process.
  • Write employment contracts/addendums for new hires.
  • Manage onboarding and offboarding process for full-time, part-time, student workers, volunteers and contingent workers; Serve on the Athletics Onboarding Committee as a lead.
  • Maintain employee contracts and compensation databases.
  • Ensure job descriptions are revised and updated as needed.
  • Serve on employee recognition committee to plan and coordinate activities and events.

Workday Delegation Support
  • Act as Workday delegate for all athletics department managers, initiating HR-related tasks on their behalf.
  • Process all employee lifecycle changes, including hiring, promotions, terminations, title changes, and compensation changes.
  • Process annual merit increases.
  • Maintain data integrity in Workday.
  • Run various scheduled and ad-hoc reports in Workday and UBI.

Employment Contracts
  • Collaborate with Deputy AD, COO/CFO and Associate Athletics Director for Business Operations to draft initial employment contracts and facilitate the execution of signatures.
  • Track, update and disseminate renewal employment contracts/retention agreements for signatures.
  • Track and process contractually obligated payments.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Manage budget for Employee Support, Success & Engagement cost center.
  • Opportunity to engage in other business office tasks as delegated.
  • Act as the Athletic Department Clery Act Coordinator.

Salary range is $55,000-65,000 dependent upon experience and qualifications. The selected candidate will pass a background check. This is a exempt-level, full-time position with UVa benefits. Employees benefits package highlights include:

Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelors Degree.
Experience: At least three years of relevant experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
