The Communications Intern will report to the Senior Manager, Communications, and assist in the Area’s core functions, including, but not limited to, Communications and Digital Content. This position requires re-location to Augusta, Ga., during the months of August through May. Housing assistance is provided for this paid internship. Like all positions at Augusta National, this intern must maintain the strict confidentiality of all Club business.

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Monitors digital news publications, social media, and printed publications for all reported information relating to Augusta National, the Masters Tournament and other relevant topics; Manages the Club’s news clipping service and distributes relevant articles to the Senior Manager, Communications.
  • Drafts content, proofreads, edits and fact-checks news releases, content pieces and publications.
  • Assists in research to answer requests for information from internal and external sources.
  • Interfaces and works directly with Senior Manager, Communications, and Communications Manager to help with preparations for the Masters Tournament and Augusta National Press Building.
  • Provides relevant research, content and communications support to the Masters Tournament Foundation’s golf development initiatives, including the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, Drive, Chip and Putt, Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship and Latin America Amateur Championship.
  • Supports the efforts of the Masters Digital Editorial Team, which produces all content (written word, photography, V.O.D., social media) for the Tournament’s various digital platforms.
  • Provides assistance on assigned archival projects.
  • Attends Area meetings, creates meeting reports and tracks action items from those meetings.
  • Completes projects as assigned by the Senior Manager, Communications.

Physical Demands

  • Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties.
  • Occasionally required to walk and work with hands and arms, lift up to 25 pounds and/or drive a golf cart.
  • Constantly required to sit, sometimes for several hours at a time, and use their hands and fingers to operate a computer.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs other duties which are deemed by management to be an important part of the job
  • Accompanies members of the media and other guests approved to visit specific locations on the property
  • Receives and directs phone calls in a professional and courteous manner

Qualifications:

      Skills/Knowledge/Attributes:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Power Point) and Adobe InDesign; Additional Adobe Creative Suite experience preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and high workloads with high attention for detail
  • Efficient organizational skills
  • Creative, resourceful and diligent in working with repetitious tasks
  • Thorough knowledge of golf, Augusta National and the Masters Tournament preferred.

Relative Experience/Education:

  • Currently enrolled or a recent graduate in an accredited college or university with junior or senior class standing in a Bachelors program, preferably in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or Business/Sports Administration
  • Experience in sports information/administration, media relations, communications or journalism is preferred

Required License(s):

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and/or successfully completes the Club’s internal motor vehicle training program

Projected Work Schedule:

Normal work hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

This position is eligible for housing provided by the Augusta National Golf Club.
