The Vice President, Production is an experienced and innovative candidate with a proven history of leading the day-to-day production of original, social, digital and studio productions. A thought leader among our content groups, this person will oversee the capture and assembly of content that resonates with PGA TOUR fans and appeals to a new audience and the production of content originating from PGA TOUR Studios.

The Vice President, Production will lead all staff and freelance field production and post-production groups as well as our new, contracted programming from outside clients. This position will report to the SVP, Content and Production on the TOUR Brand Communications team and work across departments at the PGA TOUR to ensure all groups are aligned on the production process.

Relationships and team management are a vital part of this role, acting as a consistent presence among our content leaders, broadcast networks, presenting sponsors and TOUR stakeholders. The knowledge to navigate the entire production process, including budgeting, scheduling, filming, editing, graphic creation, audio finishing and content delivery is required. Leading a large team, managing, mentoring, conducting performance reviews, providing constructive feedback, and encouraging a collaborative environment is fundamental to success in this position. This candidate should be incredibly organized, embrace sudden change and be unflappable under stress.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Broadcast, Production, Journalism, Management or Communications preferred
  • Fifteen+ years of experience working in the sports or media industry for a production, media, events, or technology company
  • Television and/or digital production experience required
  • History of managing multiple large budgets; knowledge of costs associated with production and ability to sufficiently review and ensure the accurate distribution of production costs
  • Excellent project management and partnership skills
  • Decisive leader who can inspire, motivate, and unify teams across various business units
  • Strategic thought leader who can take concepts, develop structured blueprints, and execute on that vision
  • Diverse understanding of all facets of both field and post-production is required
  • History of hiring and managing large teams with both direct and indirect reports
  • Highly organized, with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, evolving, and innovative organization

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

  • Work with production team to maintain accountability on all production standards for PGA TOUR Content
  • Provide daily feedback on field production and post-production performance
  • Oversee material and labor budgets for various content lanes. Work closely with Director, Business and Content Operations and Production Managers in staff resource management and booking freelance crews for various projects
  • Ensure all productions are properly supported creatively and financially within the scope of our content and production budget
  • Supervise the entire field production and post-production process. Help guide story narratives that align with PGA TOUR Storytelling ideas and initiatives
  • Manage freelance relationships, including on-air talent, production crews, producers, editors, graphic artists, and audio engineers
  • Sync with Digital/Social team on the production of shared content, maximizing the reach of PGA TOUR content across all media platforms
  • Lead regular meetings with Content Creators to prepare for upcoming shoots and tournaments, working closely with teams, staying up to date on content plans. Devise production schedules for projects
  • Participate in the planning and development of current and future production and operational needs and requirements of production operations, including but not limited to systems, equipment, workflow, staffing and facilities
  • Communicate and work with SVP, Content and Production on entire production process
  • Ability to prepare and present clear and concise production plan and schedules
  • Liaise with Sales and Branded Content teams on opportunities, production, and deliverables
  • Develop and oversee additional original programming and commercial production from outside clients
  • Participate in the research of new technologies as they relate to production; maintain a current awareness of technical developments and trends in the industry. Facilitate the resolution of technical and logistical problems
  • Participate in production scouts, planning and execution of high-level productions
  • Must be available during competition and production hours, which includes evenings and weekends

Manages Others

  • Oversee all staff editors, audio engineers, graphic artists, and camera operators
  • Oversee Leads and Directors, coordinating and mentoring their development as content creators
  • Develop and encourage staff to pursue new tasks and challenges related to overall departmental goals and objectives
  • Contribute to departmental operations, including staffing, budget management/cost containment, and internal communication
