The Iowa Wild Community Relations Coordinator provides assistance for development and execution of day-to-day community relations activities such as: executing various community programming initiatives, charitable donations, development of relationships with community partners and beneficiaries, planning and execution of community events and other activities.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Oversee Iowa Wild community activation, including educational and fan engagement programming such as Wild About Reading, Floor Hockey, and Kids Club.
  • Work with local charities on events, fundraisers and in-game promotions.
  • Write Community Relations promos, game program content, website content and other collateral materials.
  • Develop and manage strategic marketing plans to promote programs.
  • Respond to incoming calls and emails regarding community initiatives, respond and/or redirect as needed.
  • Prepare professional correspondence and handle confidential information.
  • Manage Iowa Wild mascot program including booking appearances and maintaining the cleanliness/quality of the costume.
  • Track and maintain Community Relations giving data for use in annual reporting.
  • Fulfill and track all inbound donations requests made to the organization.
  • Perform as team mascot, Crash, if needed at community events, sponsor activations, ticket related initiatives and Iowa Wild games.
  • Manage internal staff volunteer program, “Heart of the Wild”.
  • Assist the Marketing Manager, Promotions and Events in booking brand activation events throughout the season and offseason.
  • Align with the Marketing department to ensure consistent communications on internal and external projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Formal Education & Certification

  • 4-year college degree or equivalent relevant experience.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
  • Customer/guest service experience preferred, not required.
  • Hockey knowledge and experience preferred, not required.
  • Previous experience in a community relations role or a programming role preferred, not required.
  • Fundraising/nonprofit experience preferred, not required.
  • Experience working in Adobe Suites.

Work Conditions

  • Must be able to work all Iowa Wild home games and special events.
  • Ability to work traditional business hours in addition to nights, weekends, and holidays as needed for games and events.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to transport materials for events.
  • Physical requirements include sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, lifting, grasping, etc.
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs frequently and 40 lbs occasionally.
  • Must be able to occasionally wear mascot costume (approximately 15-20 lbs) for at least 3 hours (including breaks).
