The Utica Comets, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the New Jersey Devils, are seeking qualified candidates for the role of In-Arena Host. Reporting to the Director of Game Presentation, The In-Arena Host is a seasonal, part-time role, serving as an emcee to Utica Comets home games at the Adirondack Bank Center. This individual will host a variety of in-game promotional elements and activities to create an engaging and exciting atmosphere for fans.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Serve as a representative of the Comets brand, performing in front of a large audience with professionalism, energy, and enthusiasm.
- Host live promotional opportunities, intermission activities, and interviews throughout Utica Comets home games and events.
- Proactively engage with fans inside the Adirondack Bank Center. Encourage crowd participation to produce an exciting and positive atmosphere.
- Assist and participate in pre-game production meetings and rehearsals, including: soundchecks, in-game promotions, activities, etc.
- Ensure all pre-game, in-game, and post-game entertainment, promotions, and activities are explained clearly and accurately to fans prior to the start of their in-game element.
- Memorize and recite structured copy as well as improvise with a live audience.
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
The In-Game Host must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skill and abilities:
- Outstanding customer service, listening, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to professionally communicate and interact with Comets staff, fans, and additional stakeholders (players, executives, VIP’s, etc.)
- Must have a strong knowledge of ice hockey
- Ability to multi-task, adhere to strict timing, and work effectively in a high-pressure and fast-paced environment
- Ability to adapt to quickly changing game situations
- Memorize, write, and modify text
- Flexible schedule to allow commitment to at least 90% Utica Comets home games necessary during the 2024-25 season, including select weekends, evenings, and holidays to meet game/event needs
- Lifting at least 20-30 lb. at a time
- Stand or be on your feet for the majority of an entire shift
- Additional duties, expectations, demands, etc. may be added or changed on an as-needed basis to meet organizational needs.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
- High School Diploma or its equivalency (BA/BS Degree preferred)
- A minimum of 2-3 years of related work experience in hosting or broadcasting
- Experience in TV/Film production, live event management, Sports/Game Operations, or other relevant production/coordination experience preferred
- Knowledge of the Utica Comets, and/or the American Hockey League preferred
- Skating ability (hockey skates) is a plus, but not required

COMPENSATION
This position will pay $15 per hour
