The Utica Comets, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the New Jersey Devils, are seeking qualified individuals for their Volunteer Ice Crew for the 2024-25 season. As part of the Ice Crew, individuals will play a supporting role in the Comets’ Ice Maintenance and Game Operations teams during gamedays (pre-season, regular season, and postseason) at the Adirondack Bank Center.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform ice maintenance (ice cleaning, snow & debris removal, etc.) before and during Utica Comets games
- Assist in the execution of in-game promotions including, but not limited to, pregame ceremonies, intermission activities, and youth hockey games
- Support members of the building and game operations staff with on-ice issues, as needed
- Additional duties, expectations, demands, etc. may be added or changed on an as-needed basis to meet organizational needs.
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
All Ice Crew members must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skill and abilities:
- Must be a proficient ice skater
- Must have a flexible schedule, with an ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays (Call time is typically one [1] hour prior to puck drop)
- Flexible schedule to allow commitment to at least 90% Utica Comets home games during the 2024-25 season, plus additional playoff games as they are scheduled.
- Ability to adhere to strict timing and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Lifting at least 30 lb. at a time
- Stand or be on your feet for the majority of an entire shift
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
- Must be 16 years old or older
- A minimum of 4-5 years of proficient, ice skating experience.
- Prior ice hockey experience (playing or as an on-ice referee) is preferred, but not required.
- Must have reliable transportation to travel to and from the Adirondack Bank Center. Reimbursement for travel, gas, lodging, etc. is not offered.
