Job Summary:

The Director of Security is responsible for overseeing the overall safety and security for all Detroit Tigers business and baseball operations in TigerTown ensuring high standards are met in customer service, security and life safety, and effective emergency planning. This position is also responsible for the management and day-to-day operations of the department and planning, developing and implementing departmental goals and strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee annual strategic security plan for all Detroit Tigers business and baseball operations in TigerTown that is consistent with the enterprise-wide security program for Ilitch Holdings Inc., Ilitch Sports and Entertainment Inc. and the Detroit Tigers.

  • Develop and recommend for approval, Tigertown specific security policies, procedures and programs designed to enhance the safety of all colleagues, players, staff and visitors in compliance with the enterprise-wide corporate security program.

  • Hire, train and manage daily support staff including, but not limited to, Security Leads, Parking Attendants, Ushers and Overnight Patrol officers.

  • Maintain productive working relationships with local and regional law enforcement agencies plus related supporting private businesses and healthcare providers.

  • Manage the Access Control system, camera system & key distribution.

  • Perform ongoing analysis of threats and security risks and exposures to venue and company assets. Create risk-based security assessments & inspections to mitigate safety and security issues.

  • Respond timely to incidents, maintain evacuation, emergency and business continuity plans while communicating effectively to all relevant parties. 

  • Support Business Operations to ensure visitor screening process and vendor access are effective and ongoing business growth is managed properly.

  • Assist with preparing and managing security operations and hourly staff budget.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Major League Baseball Best Stadium Operations Practices (BSOP) and Minor League Baseball Best Stadium Operating Practices.

  • Collaborate with Detroit Tigers and Ilitch Sports and Entertainment Security Team to develop and enhance security plans and procedures, best practices and to identify emerging technologies for deployment at venues.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, business administration or equivalent.

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible and relevant experience in security/law enforcement and supervisory experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Certifications in F.A., CPR, AED, APCI-2, Anti-Terrorism and Homeland Security Defense Course, CERT Infrastructure, CCW, IAAM Crowd Management.

  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism, outstanding judgment, and superior customer service in a positive demeanor I the performance of all duties.

  • Demonstrate effective communication skills, both orally and in writing while performing a wide variety of supervisory responsibilities with time sensitive deadlines. 

  • Strong computer abilities and skills and related support technology. 

Working Conditions:

  • Outdoors and office environment.

  • Position will need to work in various weather conditions. 

  • Position is required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, etc.
