Summary
The National Events Manager is responsible for planning and coordinating USA Fencing’s North American Cup series and auxiliary events and assisting with US hosted International Tournaments. This position will report to the Director of Events and will involve frequent interactions with National Office staff members, USA Fencing members, tournament organizers and contractors.

Primary Duties
  • Assisting in planning and execution of national tournaments 
  • Determine cost estimates, track spending and adherence to budget 
  • Manage setup of contracts and venue logistics to include catering, AV, electrical, internet and security
  • Manage on-site tournament operations including setup/takedown and organization of check-in and registration for National Tournaments
  • Ensure that all equipment/materials required for event are in place; rectify any deficiencies 
  • Serve as lead for organization and execution of College Conversations Panels to help educate membership on college recruitment process and other aspects of fencing at collegiate level
  • Facilitate review and approval of officials’ flights to and from National Tournaments in coordination with the Officials Coordinator, ensuring adherence with relevant policies
  • Manage hotel room lists for staff, officials and volunteers at national and international tournaments with Officials Coordinator
  • Coordinate schedule of auxiliary events and meetings held during tournaments, including construction of meeting room schedule of activities to be distributed relevant parties
  • Provide project status reports as requested
  • Work with marketing and communications on event branding, signage and community outreach for events
  • Collaborate with Communications Department on event e-Blasts for Officials and Athletes 
  • Work with relevant National Office staff to assist with data management and analysis for national events
  • Serve as primary contact for event inquiries including registration and qualification
  • Collaborate with other staff members and contractors to develop plans to expand and improve tournament operations, including technology improvements 

Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or sports management and 2-4 years of experience in event management preferred
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; able to manage priorities and workflow
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
  • Willingness and ability to travel 20-25% of the calendar year to attend events 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions

  • Proficient on Microsoft suite products and website content management systems

Starting Salary Range  
  •  $59,500-$62,000 – Commensurate with experience

Other Information
  • The USA Fencing National Office is located in Colorado Springs, CO; the ability to work from National Office is preferred.
  • This is a full-time non-exempt position with competitive pay and flexible schedule.
