USA Fencing is seeking six part-time independent contractors to be National Weapon Coaches in all six weapons (Men’s Epee, Women’s Epee, Men’s Foil, Women’s Foil, Men’s Sabre, Women’s Sabre) to lead each of our national weapon programs.

The role requires a strategic and innovative leader with the ability to successfully manage the relevant weapon within the United States' decentralized training system. The National Weapon Coach is responsible for developing and implementing quadrennial and annual team training programs, leading Team USA at international competitions, and fostering a team culture within the weapon.   
 
The National Weapon Coach reports to the Chief of Sport Performance. 

Primary Duties
  • Design and execute a strategic plan to qualify a team for and win a team medal at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028. 
  • Serve as the head coach of the Senior National Team at all team events and assist as needed during individual events when athletes do not have personal coach support.
  • Plan and execute well-communicated senior training camps which integrate top junior and cadet fencers as well as personal coaches and provide opportunities for referee development.
  • Develop, mentor, and assign a diverse group of coaches to travel to designated junior and cadet international events. 
  • Help to designate appropriate international competitions for junior and cadet athletes.
  • Contribute to the development of fair team selection criteria.
  • Provide input to the organization’s High Performance Plan.
  • Advocate for athlete mental health and work collaboratively with USA Fencing and USOPC sports medicine and science providers.
  • When requested, contribute to the organization’s development of coach and referee education programs.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, problem-solving and organizational skills. Ability to inspire and motivate athletes.
  • Ability to develop a strong team culture among individuals.
  • Experience coaching top level international athletes.
