The Director of Officiating will work cross-departmentally to lead the strategic development and execution of the NFL FLAG Officiating model and NFL FLAG rule book. In this role, you will oversee the Officiating department, manage the assignment of all NFL FLAG officials for NFL FLAG tournaments and events, lead NFL FLAG Officials Certification Program, develop a pipeline for new officials, and support our NFL FLAG league operators with Officiating training and resources. This position will report to the Senior Director of Field Operations and requires a background in flag football officiating and strong leadership skills.
 
Job Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the main point of contact for NFL FLAG officials and oversee all assigning of officials at NFL FLAG regional and national tournaments
  • Forge partnerships with different groups around the country to find new officials to add to the database and develop a strong NFL FLAG Officials pipeline to utilize at events and provide as a resource to our league operators
  • Continue to develop and maintain NFL FLAG Officials Certification Program
  • Host 6-8 national in-person or virtual NFL FLAG Officials trainings for officials and league operators
  • Conceptualize new rule books for NFL FLAG leagues or tournaments, and assist in implementing those rules
  • Provide guidance on NFL FLAG tournament rule and their implementation
  • Support NFL FLAG Leagues and NFL Clubs with official/referee assignments when applicable
  • Assist the Senior Director of Field Operations and National Tournament Director with the development and execution of our regional and national tournament model
  • Coordinate with Manager of Officials to ensure owned and operated leagues have scheduling, payment, and training support
  • Effectively communicate the NFL FLAG tournament rules to coaches and officials
  • Oversee the management of communication and inquiries from teams and coaches as it pertains to regional and national tournaments
  • Oversee background checks and SafeSport training for officials
  • Coordinate and book all travel for officials when applicable
  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Field Operations 
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in sports management, business, or related field (or 4 years of equivalent work experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree) 
  • At least 5 years of flag football experience and officiating or referee experience
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills including personnel management, mentoring, coaching, and performance management
  • Working knowledge of staffing best practices including hiring employees and independent contractors
  • Prior experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Teams, Outlook, Excel, etc.), customer databases, and official/referee assigning or payment platform
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills and ability to build authentic, collaborative relationships with internal and external partners 
  • Initiative-taking and driven professional mindset with a passion for the enhancement of youth sports across the country 
  • Ability to lift 50-75 pounds
 
More about the role:
  • Travel: Up to 65% of the year
  • Work Schedule: Full-Time 40 hours/week (Monday-Friday) with occasional nights and frequent weekends 
  • Location: Remote
  • Compensation Structure: Salaried, FLSA Exempt (OT-ineligible), paid semi-monthly. This position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on employee and Company performance. 
  • Reports to: Senior Director of Field Operations
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: This position may have multiple full-time or part-time direct reports
